About

What is a CU?

We are a fairly small society and part of the Hull University Students Union. Basically we are a group of Christians who also happen to be students at Hull University. There... that got the really obvious bits out of the way, moving on.

As Christians we believe in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Bible. We believe the Bible to be entirely true and relevant to all people throughout history, right up until today. We consider the message of the Bible to be of vital importance to every person and because of this we want to share it with everyone at Hull University (and even people who aren't at the University if we should happen to bump into them.)

This doesn't mean that we think we are perfect people. In fact we would be the first to admit our faults. We, like all people, try to live our lives in our own way and by doing so fall short of God's perfect standard. What we fail to acknowledge is that God made us and knows what is best for us in every area of life. When we die God will judge all people according to the way they have lived their lives. There are only two possible verdicts: Heaven or Hell. This is an exam that no-one can pass, the passing grade is 100%. No matter how much good we may do even one minor thing would cause us to fail.

If this is all we believe then you may be wondering why we would be so excited to share it with everyone. We don't do it because we enjoy telling people bad news. Thankfully this is not the end of the message, God sent his Son Jesus Christ to rescue us. Although God cannot ignore the things we do wrong he placed the penalty for them on Jesus when he was crucified. Amazingly this means that we can all be forgiven by doing nothing more than trusting in Jesus. Asking him to bear the punishment for all that we do wrong, giving to him our failed exam for his perfect pass. This allows us to pass God's judgement and enter into Heaven.

If you want a more detailed idea of what we believe then take a look at doctrinal basis of the University and Colleges Christian Fellowship. This is the collective body of all the Christian Unions around the country.

We meet on a Monday evening as the whole C.U., but we also meet for prayer meetings or Thursdays. If you would like to find out more about us and what's going on then please browse the site or contact us.
